A Palette of Ideas...in the Colors of Wood

About the Company

Founded in 1898 by William Pond Harris in Johnson City, TN, Harris Tarkett has built its success on history, diversity, and quality. The company began with a very specific mission: to handcraft persimmon golf club shafts. Over the years, in addition to flooring, the company crafted cannon ramrods, broom handles, and U.S. Army tent pins.

Yet it was always the quality-oriented, vibrant hardwood flooring market that drew the interest of three generations of the Harris family. Thus, out of these early turnings, the company now known as Harris Tarkett has evolved into one of the world's premier hardwood flooring manufacturers.

In the early 1980s, Harris Manufacturing merged with Tarkett AB of Sweden to meld the traditions of a family business with the most advanced manufacturing techniques currently available. As a result, when you purchase Harris Tarkett flooring, you are getting a product from a company steeped in tradition but always looking to the future.

A primary factor contributing to the longevity of Harris Tarkett is the knowledge of how to use truly natural "aesthetics" to help homeowners create the perfect living area.

Creating flooring from all different species of North American hardwoods and a few exotics, Harris Tarkett truly knows what makes a good floor.

Wood Flooring Products

Versatility is plentiful in the Harris Tarkett product lines. From Natural Maple to Oak Wheat, American Cherry to Ash Natural, you are sure to find a floor that suits your needs and lifestyle. Warm, light shades like Beech, traditional neutrals including the Oak family, cool dark earth tones such as Walnut — the choice is up to you!

Harris Tarkett commits itself to being a leader in the flooring industry by constantly looking for the perfect wood grains, the best woods, the richest hues, and the newest technology in order to offer outstanding wood flooring products to their customers at the most affordable price.

Their Grand Vistas collection is the widest, single-width plank on the market — perfect for wide open spaces.

The American Collection is an engineered board with a precisely cut, thick top layer that accentuates the richness of the hardwood's graining.

The Vintage Collection contains more of nature's "trademarks," lending this floor unique visual characteristics that add contrast to a room's decor.

Artisan plank, which comes in random lengths with a beveled edge, offers the industry's broadest collection of species, showcasing their natural colors and beauty.

And this is just the beginning; there are many more styles and selections of engineered and natural plank products to choose from, encompassing wood species as diverse as:

  • Ash
  • Beech
  • Brazilian Cherry
  • Cherry
  • Chestnut
  • Maple
  • Merbau
  • Pecan
  • Red Oak
  • Walnut
  • White Oak

Many of these wood flooring species are available in a variety of colors, with a protective finish of Alumide™, which offers up to 10 times more abrasion-resistance than ordinary wood finishes. Alumide also provides more gloss retention than other urethane finishes, and its aluminum oxide particles provide a smooth, easy-to-maintain surface.

Why choose real wood flooring? Because it introduces a definite stature and an undeniable charm to any room. And like your grandmother's oak sideboard, wood floors, just by their nature, become close to the heart and more valuable as time goes by. Why choose a Harris Tarkett wood floor for your home? Because their longstrip, engineered, and solid flooring choices are among the most diverse and highest quality in the industry.
