County Floors Santos Mahogany

Santos Mahogany grows throughout Central and South America. The sapwood is golden white in color and is clearly delineated from the heartwood. The freshly-cut heartwood is reddish-brown, but it darkens to deep red or somewhat purplish. Color variation is moderate between boards. The grain is commonly interlocked. Quartersawn material usually exhibits a striped figure. A Hard density wood, with 13% humidity is 910 Kg/m3, when green is 950 Kg/m3. The heartwood is rated as highly resistant to attack by decay fungi. Santos Mahogany has an excellent polishing characteristics and high luster. Santos Mahogany is known as incensio or balsamo in many countries where it has been named for its perfume when fresh cut. The scent quickly dissipates once it ages.
